Periyakulam Jameen in the Theni area is 500 years of age and was established in 1484 AD. The current zamindar is Machi Ramabhadrakuru. There are three most established sanctuaries in the city. Balasubramaniam Swamy kovil is situated on the banks of the varaha Nathi. Periya kovil and Karanamurthy Swamy kovil are situated on the southeast side of the Kailasanathar Temple. Maunakuru Swamis are situated in Periyakulam Town. “Om Shivogam” is the principal motto of Swamigal. The extraordinary holy person Arunagirinathar visited this spot and made an imitation out of Lord Muruga. The temple is 16km from the Theni town and 3 km from Periyakulam town.
