Velappar Temple is located in the Theni district amidst mountains. To reach the temple, one has to climb around 300 steps. The presiding deity here is Lord Murugan and the puja is conducted by the Paliyars (local tribes). The temple has a stream on the side that comes out as a natural spring from among the roots of the mango trees which forms into a stream. It is said that a bath in this spring and eating food cooked with this water can cure the most difficult of diseases. This temple was built by Kandamanayakanur Jameen during his ruling around theni Zilla his James is the biggest ruling area Jameen. Initially, Brahmins are appointed to this temple for Archananai & Puja. Then Local tribes (Paliyar) take over the position given by the Zameen. Lord Velappar is a swayambumurthi. There is a perennial spring under a mango tree south of the temple.
